Youth Olympic Games: A Global Sporting Event for Young Athletes

Overview

The Youth Olympic Games (YOG) is an international multi-sport event organized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for athletes aged 15 to 18. The YOG aims to promote Olympism among young people and provide a platform for their sporting and personal development.

History and Objectives

The first YOG was held in Singapore in 2010. The event has since been held in Nanjing (2014), Buenos Aires (2018), and Lausanne (2020). The next YOG is scheduled to take place in Dakar, Senegal, in 2026.

The YOG has four key objectives:

  • To provide a high-level sporting competition for young athletes.
  • To promote Olympism and its values among young people.
  • To support the development of young athletes on and off the field of play.
  • To create a platform for cultural exchange and understanding among young people from around the world.
