Team USA Survives Scare Against South Sudan
LeBron James' Late Layup Secures 101-100 Victory
A Thrilling Exhibition Game Previewing the 2024 Olympics
In a thrilling exhibition game that previewed the upcoming 2024 Olympic men's basketball tournament, Team USA narrowly escaped with a 101-100 victory over a spirited South Sudan team on Tuesday night.
South Sudan, led by NBA players Thon Maker and Luol Deng, shocked Team USA early by taking a 16-point lead in the second quarter. However, the Americans stormed back with a massive third quarter, outscoring their opponents 32-16 to claim a 79-73 advantage.
South Sudan refused to go away, though, and battled back to take a one-point lead with just 20 seconds remaining. That's when LeBron James, the elder statesman of Team USA, came to the rescue. The 38-year-old forward drove into the lane and hit a clutch layup to give his team a 101-100 lead with just seconds left.
South Sudan had a chance to tie the game at the free throw line, but Maker missed his second attempt, allowing Team USA to escape with the narrow victory.
